GFPS First Quarter Meeting & One Billion Rising Dance

The Gender and Development Office conducted its first quarter meeting regarding the upcoming National Women’s Month this March. Last February 10, 2023, at Quezon Hall 111, Dr. Simpas and other GAD Focal Persons from various WVSU campuses and colleges collaborated to plan out the events and activities for the 2023 International Women’s Month Celebration.

The theme for this celebration was stated, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.” The plans included the wearing of purple things such as bracelets, ribbons, shirts, and many others every Wednesday for the whole month of March. This aimed to spread significance and another way of celebrating Women’s Month. Dr. Simpas called it “Purple Wednesday”.

Next in line was the discussion of GAD Calendar for the year 2023. Dr. Simpas presented an updated calendar of WVSU to determine the dates when they will hold their upcoming activities for Women’s Month.

Last but not least was the One Billion Rising (OBR) Campaign. Dr. Simpas thought of asking for help from her PESCAR students in choreographing the dance. The whole GAD Focal Persons including Dr. Simpas joined the practice in front of the Quezon Hall Façade. Every one of them cooperated in the practice even though some movements and steps are hard to cope with. Despite all this, the enthusiasm of the students and teachers were dominating at that day.
